Question 1

Where is the studio?

Accepted Answer

I work from a private studio in Edmondson Park, in South Western Sydney. It's just me, one client at a time, so there's no waiting room and no one else booked in alongside you. I send the exact address once your appointment is confirmed.

Question 2

Do I need a patch test?

Accepted Answer

Yes, before your first lash extensions, lash lift, brow lamination or tint. It needs to be done at least 48 hours before your appointment, takes about 10 minutes, and shows how your skin reacts to the products I use. If you notice any itching, redness or swelling afterwards, let me know straight away and we'll hold off on the treatment. If you'd rather skip it, you can tick the waiver on the booking form. That means you understand the risk of a reaction and accept responsibility for going ahead without one.

Question 3

How should I prepare for a lash appointment?

Accepted Answer

Come with clean, makeup-free eyes and bring your glasses instead of wearing contacts. For 24 hours beforehand, skip oil-based products, lash serums and waterproof mascara, because they leave a film that stops adhesive and lift solution working properly. Avoid any other lash lifts, tints or perms in the 4 weeks before. A full set of extensions means lying still with your eyes closed for 2 to 2.5 hours, so eat beforehand and wear something comfortable. Plenty of clients fall asleep, which is completely fine.

Question 4

How should I prepare for a brow appointment?

Accepted Answer

Let your brows grow for 2 to 4 weeks before shaping, with no tweezing or waxing in between. That gives me the full shape to work with rather than guessing around gaps. Stop retinol, exfoliating acids and scrubs on the brow area a week before, as they make the skin more sensitive to lamination and tint. Avoid sunburn and fake tan on your brows, and come without brow makeup.

Question 5

When should I reschedule?

Accepted Answer

Please move your appointment if you have an eye infection, stye or irritation, if you've had eye surgery in the last 6 months, or if you're feeling unwell. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, wear contact lenses or are having medical treatment, let me know before booking so we can talk it through. Giving more than 24 hours' notice means your deposit is fully refunded.

Question 6

Which lash style should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Classic is one extension on each natural lash. It looks like your own lashes with good mascara on, and suits people with a decent number of healthy lashes. Hybrid mixes classic lashes with small handmade fans for a bit of texture. Light Volume, Volume and Mega Volume use fans of roughly 2 to 4, 4 to 6 and 8 to 16 very fine extensions per natural lash, so each step looks fuller and darker. Volume is also the better choice if your natural lashes are sparse, because the fans fill gaps that classic can't. If you're unsure, choose "Not sure yet" and we'll decide together at the start of your appointment.

Question 7

How long does each treatment take?

Accepted Answer

A full set of lash extensions takes 2 to 2.5 hours. Infills take about an hour at two weeks and a little longer at three weeks, because there are more grown-out and missing lashes to replace. A lash lift or brow lamination takes around 60 minutes, and a brow shape and tint around 30 minutes.

Question 8

Why shouldn't a full set take less than two hours?

Accepted Answer

Most people have somewhere between 90 and 150 lashes on each upper lid. For a classic set I'm usually placing 80 to 120 extensions per eye, so 160 to 240 in total. Each one involves isolating a single natural lash, choosing the right length and curl for that spot, dipping it in adhesive and placing it just off the skin. Done properly, that takes around 30 to 45 seconds a lash. Do the maths and a careful full set comes in at two hours or more before we even count prep and mapping. When a set is finished in 60 or 90 minutes, something has usually been skipped: fewer lashes have been done, or extensions are being stuck to two or three natural lashes at once. Those stuck lashes can't shed on their own cycle, so they get pulled out early. That's what causes gaps, discomfort and, over time, damaged lashes.

Question 9

How long do extensions last?

Accepted Answer

Extensions stay on until the natural lash they're attached to falls out. Each lash grows for roughly 30 to 45 days, rests, and then sheds, and it's normal to lose 1 to 5 lashes per eye every day. Because your lashes are all at different stages, you lose extensions gradually, not all at once. After two weeks most people still have 60 to 70 percent of their set, and at three weeks it's closer to 40 to 50 percent. That's why infills are booked every 2 to 3 weeks, and why you need around 40 percent remaining for it to count as an infill.

Question 10

What is the difference between a lash lift and extensions?

Accepted Answer

A lash lift works on your own lashes. I use a silicone shield and a two-step solution to lift and set them in a curl, and adding a tint darkens them from root to tip. Nothing is added, so the length and thickness are your own. It takes about 60 minutes and lasts 6 to 8 weeks, until those lashes shed and new straight ones grow in. Extensions add length, thickness and darkness on top of your natural lashes, take 2 to 2.5 hours to apply, and need an infill every 2 to 3 weeks. A lift is lower maintenance; extensions give a more noticeable change.

Question 11

How do I care for my lash extensions?

Accepted Answer

For the first 24 hours, while the adhesive fully cures, keep your lashes completely dry. That means no water, steam, saunas, hot showers on the face, sweaty workouts or sleeping face-down. After that, cleanse them every day with an oil-free lash cleanser: wet them with lukewarm water, foam the cleanser on with a soft, fluffy brush stroking downwards, rinse well and pat dry with a lint-free towel. Once dry, brush through gently with a clean spoolie. Clean lashes last longer, and a build-up of oil and makeup is the most common reason for early fallout. Sleep on your back or on a silk pillowcase, and use water-based makeup and remover around the eyes. Avoid oil-based cleansers, removers and eye creams, mascara on the extensions, eyelash curlers and waterproof eyeliner, which is hard to remove gently. Bursts of high heat, like opening the oven or standing over a BBQ, can frizz the lashes. Losing a few a day is normal, but never rub, pick or pull at them, even when they're shedding.

Question 12

How do I care for my brows or lash lift?

Accepted Answer

Keep the treated area dry and untouched for the first 24 hours while it settles: no water, steam, saunas, swimming, sweaty workouts, makeup on the area or sleeping face-down. After a lash lift, skip mascara and curlers for 24 hours, then brush your lashes upwards each morning with a clean spoolie. From day 2, a lash serum or nourishing oil keeps them healthy. After brow lamination, brush your brows into shape each morning, apply a nourishing brow oil or serum each night from day 2, and keep retinol and exfoliants off them for a week. Tint fades faster with sun, sunbeds, swimming, saunas and oil-based or exfoliating products, so apply SPF around your brows rather than on them. After shaping, some redness is normal and settles within a few hours. Avoid fake tan, exfoliants and touching the area for 24 hours, and let them grow between visits with no tweezing.

Question 13

How long do lash lift and brow results last?

Accepted Answer

A lash lift lasts 6 to 8 weeks, brow lamination 4 to 6 weeks, and tint anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks depending on your skin and aftercare. Brow shaping is best rebooked every 3 to 5 weeks.

Question 14

Will extensions damage my natural lashes?

Accepted Answer

They shouldn't, if they're applied properly and you look after them. Damage usually comes from three things: extensions that are too long or heavy for the natural lash, several lashes glued together, or extensions being picked or pulled off. I match the length and thickness of every extension to the lash it sits on, keep each one isolated, and remove my own sets free of charge. If your lashes need a break, I'll tell you.

Question 15

What if something doesn't feel right afterwards?

Accepted Answer

Message me within 48 hours. If an issue is caused by the application, I'll fix it free of charge. If redness, itching or swelling lasts more than 24 to 48 hours, let me know. For severe swelling, pain or any change in your vision, see a GP or pharmacist straight away.

Question 16

Can I have extensions if I am pregnant?

Accepted Answer

Many clients do, but please let me know before booking. Hormone changes during pregnancy can change your lash growth cycle, so retention may not be as good as usual. You'll also be lying flat for a couple of hours, which gets less comfortable later on, so we can plan around that. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
